Members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago present a program of contemporary works that invite reflection on emotions and experiences of the global pandemic. Curated by the Civic Fellows and recorded in Buntrock Hall at Symphony Center, the program features Startin’ Sumthin’, Jeff Scott’s ingenious reimagining of ragtime music; CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence Missy Mazzoli’s Still Life with Avalanche, which seeks to find beauty in chaos; Nicole Mitchell’s improvisational and experimental Symbology #3; Justina Repečkaitė’s highly focused, quasi-digital Rapid Eye Movements; and Lisa Atkinson’s aponea, a meditation on the complexity of stillness.
