Form the Fabric
Civic Orchestra of Chicago - Episodes • 17-Jun-2021
Curated by the Fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago following a global call for scores process, this program features new music by selected composers Nina Shekhar, Michal Massoud, Kyle Krause and inti figgis-vizueta. Shekhar’s compelling string quartet Above the Fray unspools familiar melodic threads, while figgis-vizueta’s piece Form the Fabric weaves together new strands of improvised material. Massoud’s Quintette bridges the gap between different genres and performance practices, while Kyle Krause’s Recycled Effervescence connects real world sounds with the concert hall through the inclusion of glass bottles as percussive instruments. Also heard is Tonia Ko’s Escape Landscape, in which she depicts the transformation of an image when it is viewed from a distance versus up-close, like looking through the threads of woven material.
The Fellows invite you to “Form the Fabric” of your own listening experience by stitching together whatever pattern you may find.
