Music Director Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra gave a stirring performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 to conclude the first program of the 2021/22 season. In his remarks to open the evening, Muti lauded the heroism of musicians whose voices were once again allowed to ring out after falling silent during the pandemic — a message that resonated in the Orchestra’s triumphant delivery of the Eroica Symphony.
