Saint-Georges: Overture to L'Amant anonyme
CSO in Concert • 17-Feb-2022
In September 2021, Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed the Overture to L’Amant anonyme by Joseph Bologne, the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, to open the 2021/22 concert season at Symphony Center. A champion fencer, war hero and contemporary of Mozart, Saint-Georges is considered the first Black European composer of note whose music, while wildly popular and influential during his lifetime, has long been overlooked.
