This program of triumphant music by American composers, featuring musicians from the CSO brass and percussion sections, heralded the return of live concerts at Symphony Center in May of 2021. Works by Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber paint the sounds of traditional fanfare and chorale with modernist colors, and themes by Michael Tilson Thomas, Leonard Bernstein and Gunther Schuller reflect the electric influence of jazz and film music.
COPLAND Fanfare for the Common Man
SCHULLER Symphony for Brass and Percussion, Op. 16
BARBER Mutations from Bach
TILSON THOMAS Street Song for Symphonic Brass
