In the final in-person concert from the 2020/21 season, celebrated conductor Edo de Waart led a program that offered a prelude to live music in the season ahead. Wagner’s sun-soaked Siegfried Idyll, first performed as a birthday gift for his wife Cosima, is a poignant musical love letter that sheds light on the composer’s intimate side. Two works by Mozart — the stormy overture to Don Giovanni and the indelible Symphony No. 40 — bookend this spirited program.
